What does it mean to be beautiful?

This is Carly Ned. She is a teenager girl who I follow on a separate blogging site. From the first time that I watched this video I was instantly moved emotionally. Carly is a teenager, just like myself and a good portion of the world. She's going through everything we are, and she has the guts to step up and speak out against all the wrong in teenagers self-view. Teenagers smile on the outside, but on the inside we're sad. Why is this? This is because of the lack of confidence. Teenagers do things to their body to change their self image when in reality, we are all amazing just the way we are. Life is hard and things hold but there's always a reason to push forward.

I recommend watching this video to have a further understanding of what I'm talking about. Carly created created this message to reach out to other teenagers to help them know they are not alone.

  1. Watching this video really made me think. Carly is absolutely right, we are all in the same boat. I always complain about my life, my troubles, and my imperfections. However, I never take the time to think that maybe the person I’m complaining to has just as many problems. Everything always seems like the end of the world in a teenager’s life, but chances are, other people are dealing with much bigger issues. We all tend to complain about the small things, like bad hair days, pimples, and not having enough clothes. What we don’t think about is the people who have to deal with, literally, not having clothes, food, and shelter. Carly is right, we are all beautiful, and “being yourself is the prettiest thing a person can be.” So next time, instead of complaining about your troubles, you should probably ask the person your about to complain to, if their okay, and if they need a shoulder to lean on. Not everything always has to be about us. Also, we should stop changing our bodies, and trying to make them look like what we think is acceptable. We should all take off our masks, like Carly, and show our true, natural beauty; with confidence.

  2. I love this video! Carly basically took the words out of my life on explaining how I feel at times. Sometimes I feel ugly, or complain many things and feel like I’m alone. Sometimes I overreact about how I’m going through difficult and think that I am the only one in the same boat but in reality I’m not. Listening to Carly talk about how everyone is in the same boat is very true, and I never really noticed that until now. Everyone sometimes feels the way I do and wants someone to comfort them. I feel like this video is so inspiring it says a lot about feeling beautiful. Only you, yourself can make yourself believe that you are truly beautiful and if you do not believe it then you will never feel self confident. Carly seems like she is an inspiration for many girls because she shows how she truly is without all her makeup and exterior materials, more girls should take her advice.

  3. I'm so glad you girls liked this video. I honestly think it is one of the most inspirational video's I have ever watched. It makes everything so much realer considering it's coming from someone the same age as us. She created this message to reach out to other teenagers and let them know they are not alone. The video specifically appeals to teenagers in a way that only we can relate to her, because we are feeling the same exact way. Only we can make ourselves believe that we are truly beautiful. We all need the inspiration and confidence that Carly has to get up and make a change in our lives. We are not ugly. We are all beautiful. We were created this way for a reason. This is who we are and who God intended us to be.

  4. Amanda, this video is truly inspiring. Carly really made me think about my life and the people in it. Usually if someone is in a bad mood, I tend to call him or her things such as grouchy and mean. However, after watching this video it made me realize that all teenagers truly are “in the same boat.” I am not the only one who has problems with family, school etc. The next time someone seems as if they are having an off day, I will not criticize them; I will try to help them. Also, another strong point Carly made in the video is the fact that teenagers always seem to have low self-confidence at one point and another. They feel as if they are not beautiful enough, perfect enough. However, Carly is right “being yourself is the prettiest thing you can be.” Therefore, it is sad seeing almost everyone hiding behind a mask of makeup; me included. The world would be a much nicer place if everyone could have the self-confidence Carly showed in this video, and take of their masks.

  5. Right now just by watching this video I felt like Carly was speaking directly to me. She basically summed up how everyone feels at times. We all feel ugly and have a lack of self confidence at times and just want to hide under a rock, but why do we feel like this? Why do we feel the need to have to hide under a rock because we do not have the confidence to feel pretty? I wish I could say that I’m always confident but I am not, I have my own set of issues like Carly said “we are all in the same boat.” It’s good to hear that we are all in the same boat. But we all have to realize that we need to not hide behind a mask of tons of makeup and designer clothes. I agree with everything Carly has to say in this video, we are all amazing! And the best thing we could do is lift our heads up and high and be ourselves because it is the prettiest thing we could be. If other teenagers were to watch this video they would probably say to themselves “wow I am not alone,” and would probably be inspired by Carly like I am.

  6. Carly truly is an inspiration. It is thrilling to think that she is just an average teenage girl like us. She eats, sleeps breathes, goes to school, and hangs out with her friends. In our lifetime, there would probably be a slim chance of us meeting her. But because she made this video, she has become an inspiration in my life and I have not even met her. "We are all in the same boat." So even though Carly may be on the other side of the country, she is still here for us just like we should still be here for her. She had the guts to stand up and speak out against the negative views teenagers have on themselves. She made this video to tell everyone how beautiful he or she truly is. We are not alone and we are not the only ones who feel this way.
